Special Needs Tutoring is owned and operated by Janice B. Tehie, PhD. A ten-year veteran of teacher education programs, Dr. Tehie has trained teachers in Jersey City, NJ, and in rural Northwestern Pennsylvania (McKean County). She has taught courses in Child Development, Foundations of Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Development of Exceptional Children. She has supervised at least 150 student teachers in area schools in both rural and urban environments, and has also taught freshmen enrolled in college reading and study skills courses how to enjoy reading and learning.
With a longtime interest in special education law, Dr. Tehie has just completed a paralegal certificate at Widener University in Wilmington, Delaware, and worked extensively with a Philadelphia attorney specializing in special education law. Deciding that there was a tremendous need for a caring educator to work 1 on 1 with students with IEPs in so many schools in Philadelphia and its suburbs, Dr. Tehie is establishing this tutoring service to provide children and adolescents with intensive, individual assistance in subject areas in which students may be experiencing difficulty. Dr. Tehie will work within the guidelines and recommendations of your child's IEP to set up a schedule for tutoring.
Dr. Tehie will travel to your home to work with your child, or meet you and your child at a pre-arranged location such as a library conference room, if that is preferable. Recommendations are available upon request.
Rates are reasonable: $20 per hour. Cash or check accepted.
